UW-Madison Timetable Planning Toolkit

New User Information

Each academic department should have one person designated as the primary timetable representative (tt rep) with one or more back-up tt reps recommended. It is the responsibility of the primary tt rep to collect updates to the upcoming timetable and enter allowable updates directly in ISIS.

The Timetable and Classroom Scheduling (TACS) section of the Registrar’s Office is responsible for publishing the timetable. TACS establishes the timetable production schedule and communicates the timelines and processing instructions to the primary tt rep in each department.

New timetable representatives should:

ProvideTACS with your contact information.

Telephone the TACS staff person responsible for your department. Go to Curricular Services Staff Contact List to determine the appropriate TACS staff person. Give TACS your information: name, address, email, phone, and department affiliation and the TACS contacts data base will be updated so you get timely communications directly. If needed, TACS will also make sure that you have materials previously sent out that are still applicable to a particular process in progress.

Get Update Access to ISIS .

Go to the ISIS website http://www.isis.wisc.edu and click on ‘New Users’. This will provide you with all the information and forms you will need to get authorized for ISIS. You will need to request ‘SC_TTBL2’ (the Timetable update authorization role) in order to update your timetable course listings directly in ISIS. Note that ‘SC_TTBL2’ requires training before access is given. If timetable update training is not offered for a while, it is recommended that you also request ‘SC_ITTBL’ so you can begin to acquaint yourself with the ISIS pages. ‘SC_ITTBL’ is the inquiry version of ‘SC_TTBL2’ and does not require training.

Sign up for Timetable Update Training.

From the ISIS website click on “Training.” Enroll in the next scheduled timetable update class. If training is not offered for a while, it is also recommended that you request ‘SC_ITTBL’ – the inquiry version of ‘SC_TTBL2’ which does not require training. Typically Timetable Update training is given in February, May, July, and November each year to coincide with the timetable update cycles.

From the “Training” link, you can also read or print a copy of the Timetable Update Manual, link to information about the Query Library, and more.

Acquaint yourself with this Timetable Toolkit website.

This website has timetable update materials previously sent to tt reps from TACS, Planning Schedules, key deadline dates, policies, procedures, resources, a compilation of examples, and much, much more...

Overview of the timetable process

The timetable process for departments involves planning course information, entering the appropriate data into the ISIS (Integrated Student Information System) computer database, then reviewing and auditing the data.

Fall and spring timetable builds: Fall and spring timetables are not printed. Since we don't need to proof physical copies of the pages, these builds are more streamlined than the summer build. There are two phases of production (PDF): Initial Timetable Call and Final Timetable Call. These phases are initiated by the Timetable and Classroom Scheduling Section within the Office of the Registrar.

Summer timetable build: Because the summer timetable is still printed, the build involves three phases of production (PDF) Initial Timetable Call, Mini-update Window, and Page Proof Day. These phases are initiated by the Timetable and Classroom Scheduling Section within the Office of the Registrar.

This Web site focuses on how to plan for the timetable build process.
